Most advertising is about interrupting your audience, and people are growing immune to it. They will read an article they googled but are much less likely to click on a banner ad. They want to learn about what interests them.
And you have a lot to say that interests them, if you don't try to sell them something every time. That's the key for brand building and relationship development. And it's much cheaper than ads.
What is involved in writing a press release?
- recognizing what's newsworthy about what you're doing and seeing the opportunity to make news with it
- developing a plan about target, message, format
- gathering information relevant to the audience
- writing it in a way that will interest the media and compel them to pick up the story
- sending it out to the appropriate media contacts at the right time.

‘BGCA Open’ teams to ‘play a round’ of 18 shops for prizes, fun to benefit Boys & Girls Club
Teams of costumed destination shoppers from around the state and the U.S. will be on Fredericksburg’s historic Main Street to “play a round” of shopping Sept. 13, competing for prizes for indulging their habit.
The golf-themed BGCA Open Shopping Tournament offers discounts and other incentives at 18 “holes”—shoppers’ choice of the 25 participating shops, along with discounts at Fredericksburg bed-and-breakfasts. Also included are Friday night preview parties, a “Tea Off” breakfast, and a “19th Hole” party at the end of the day.
The shopping tournament, now in its fifth year, benefits the Boys & Girls Club (BGC) of Fredericksburg.
The tournament sparks competition not only among shoppers but also among the participating shops, which are vying for their own Shoppers’ Choice awards as well as business dollars.
